What Is a Certified Arborist and Why Should you Hire One?

The tree care industry has strict guidelines, educational and training requirements, certifications, and licensing exams in place to protect consumers and companies alike. However, some states have no licensure requirement for a company providing professional tree services. A certified arborist, such as those at Stein Tree Service, will ensure your trees are properly cared for in a safe, environmentally sound manner.

What Is a Certified Arborist?

An International Certified Arborist (ISA) certified arborist is a tree care professional who has taken the time and effort to acquire extended training and education and has passed the certification exam through ISA.

A certified arborist, such as those at Stein Tree Service, will ensure your trees are properly cared for in a safe, environmentally sound manner.

The Certification Process

In order to become ISA credentialed and certified, the arborist must first prove to have met the requirements to sit for the exams. While these requirements change depending on the level of certification sought, they share common themes, which include:

  • At least two years of full-time practical work experience in arboriculture
  • Proof of training or education in various aspects of arboriculture
  • Experience in potential specialties (tree risk assessment, tree removal, tree health care, and more)

Arborists who pass their certification exams must adhere to a strict code of ethics as outlined by the International Society of Arboriculture, ensuring the fair treatment and safety of consumers, employees, and the surrounding environment.

Why Should You Hire a Certified Arborist?

When your electric system malfunctions, you contact a licensed electrician. When your pipes freeze, you want an experienced plumber. So, when your trees need help, you should hire a certified arborist. Aside from proven experience and knowledge regarding everything necessary to care for trees, a certified arborist must also follow the ISA’s code of ethics. The code of ethics covers things from tree topping to the application of chemicals to treat infections, diseases, infestations, and much more.

Stein Tree Service’s Arborists are More Than ISA Certified

Stein Tree Service has always been dedicated to remaining up-to-date on the newest advances and developments in Arboriculture. We proudly maintain certification through the ISA and passed the State Pesticide Applicator’s Exam in 2016 for an additional certification and license that allows us to buy, store, and apply specialized chemicals through closed forms of delivery to combat the current invasion by the emerald ash borer.
